fun blogs

Samantha, I also check PostSecret on a weekly basis. (In fact, I'm planning on doing a similar project for SMC out of the Women's Resource Center this year.) Similar to PostSecret is the Found Magazine blog. People submit notes or drawings or pictures they find. However, my favorite blog is Feministing, a blog written by and for young feminists. I met the woman who founded this site this summer and she's amazing!

As great as blogs are and as fun as blogging can be, there are always precautions that need to be taken. One thing I find so fascinating about the internet is the anonymity of it. This allows anyone online (especially bloggers) to be vulnerable to harassment, as described in this article from the Washington Post. Even I've been personally attacked on a blog by someone I don't even know on a blog I've never heard of! (It's amazing what you find when you Google yourself...)

Peace,
Renee

Interesting Blogs

Since you asked Professor Berdayes, there are actually two blogs that I look at on a regular basis. They are Something Old, Something New and Post Secret.

Something Old, Something New is a website all about weddings which is neat to read. MacKenzie writes all about her various wedding ideas, findings, etc. and she opens up a whole new world for wedding ideas.

Post Secret is another fascinating site where people can send in various "secrets" or confessions that they have in an anonymous manner. It can be both sad and also eye-openings what people send in to the site. The new "post cards" are entered in every Sunday as "Sunday Secrets" and there are usually from about 10-15 uploaded.

blogging

Hi everyone,

If you would like to read about blogging, check out this site. Let us know if you have any interesting blogs that you routinely read. One of my favorites is written by my friend, Emily. Her son just came through open heart surgery and she has shared that experience with those of us who love them. You can find it here.

Welcome to our class blog

In a few short weeks this new class New Media and Communication will meet for the first time. Throughout the course of the semester, this blog will be a repository of our reactions, reflections, and ideas as we explore subtle aspects of the use of mobile phones, social networks, and our participation in virtuals worlds. Hopefully, this blog can be a safe place for us to share our thoughts and questions and open our inquiries and experiences beyond the limits of our classroom and into the larger world of the web.
